Who we are
Welcome to Sassy Squishy Foundation
The Sassy Squishy Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. Founded on February 13th, 2024, by a parent who experienced the challenges of navigating the journey of raising a child with Down syndrome, the foundation emerged from a deeply personal need for support and understanding.
Facing the diagnosis of her child's condition, though she had the support of her family, the founder searched for someone to confide in and share experiences with but encountered difficulty in finding appropriate resources and individuals who had walked a similar path till she finally found the Downsyndrome Association of Ghana, at the time she was also raising funds for her daughters heart surgery in India so seeking the services of a licensed therapist to attend to her psychological needs was not an option since it also came at a cost. This struggle highlighted the glaring gap in mental health support for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities, motivating the creation of the Sassy Squishy Foundation.
The foundation aims to provide a supportive community where parents and caregivers can connect, share their experiences, and find solace in knowing they are not alone in their journey. Through various programs and initiatives, including support groups, counseling services, educational workshops, and online resources, the foundation strives to empower individuals to navigate the emotional and practical challenges of caring for a child with a disability.
At the core of its mission, the Sassy Squishy Foundation endeavors to foster resilience, promote self-care, and advocate for the mental health needs of parents and caregivers within the broader disability community. By offering a compassionate and understanding space for individuals to seek guidance and support, the foundation aims to enhance the well-being of families and strengthen their ability to provide loving care for their children.
